Alexander won the MacRae Cup amateur Piobaireachd contest at the Coeur D'Alene Summer School of Piping & Drumming on Friday, August 6th, as well as scholarships to the 2011 school and a tuition scholarship to the Celtic Arts Foundation Winter School (formerly Mastery of Scottish Arts Winter School) in February 2011. On Saturday, he won the aggregate in Grade 1 piping at the Spokane Highland Games.

A return trip to Snohomish rain after a week of 80-90 degree weather helps prepare Alexander for his Sunday evening flight to Glasgow, Scotland to join Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band to provide technical support and play bagpipes with them while tuning and preparing for the World Pipe Band Championships on Saturday August 14th.

About Alexander

Alexander Schiele began playing bagpipes at age 8 with instructor Kevin Auld. Alexander is a young, top ranked competing and performing bagpiper in the Snohomish County, Washington area and playing with the 9th ranked pipe band in the world, Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band.

The 2011 US Junior Solo Bagpiping Champion, and winner of the 2011 George Sherriff Memorial Piobaireachd contest (2nd overall), Alexander is one of the highest ranked amateur pipers in North America.

In 2010/2011, Alexander tied for 2nd in the BCPA Grand Aggregate championships, played with a Grade 1 pipe band, the Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, while also playing as Pipe Major for the new NWJPB/White Spot Pipe Band Grade 3 project. DTSPB won the World Pipe Band Championships qualifier, placing 6th in the Medley and 9th overall. NW/WSUPB won piping at the Bridge of Allan Highland Games, placed 5th in Juvenile at the World Pipe Band Championships.

In the 2009/2010 season, he was promoted to Grade 1 at age 13, the youngest of all grade 1 Amateur pipers at the time. He had a very successful year in 2010, placing 2nd overall for the season in the British Columbia Pipers' Association.

Alexander enjoys instruction from David and Shaunna Hilder, Brian McKenzie, Hal Senyk and Kevin Auld, and regularly attends the Celtic Arts Foundation Winter School for a week with many of the top instructors and soloists in the world.
